The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the performing arts, which we now know as Maureen O'Hara, would certainly qualify her to be in the "child prodigy" category. However, for a child of Irish heritage surrounded by gifted parents and family, those were not innate traits. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin the capital of Ireland, on 17 August 1920. Her mother, Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin firm, as well as held shares of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer club. Maureen FitzSimons placed 2nd in the group of 6 FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this gorgeous group. Maureen excelled at sports and was a lover of rough play. Her natural ability to perform was a perfect complement to her interest in sports. She won almost all Feis Award for Theatre and Drama which her nation had to offer. At the age of 14, she was admitted to the highly acclaimed Abbey Theater and pursued her dream of classical theater along with operatic music.
