Ricci was the eldest of four kids born to Sarah Murdoch and Ralph Ricci in Santa Monica, California. In the 1960s, her mother worked as model for the Ford Agency Model. She eventually became a realtor for real estate. Her father was a lawyer, who also worked as a drug counsellor, primal theraputic therapy and a fitness instructor. Ricci stated she believes that her Italian heritage was a result of her surname. Between four and five generations one Italian couple married Irish women. Their sons all were born. The number of children grew as more Irish wives got married. Ricci made the move from Italy to Montclair from Italy with her parents. Ricci was a student at Montclair High School. She attended Professional Children's School, New York City.
